The Arctic Centre of the University of Lapland (Rovaniemi, Finland) organized the first workshop on Arctic migration on April 18, 2016 in cooperation with UArctic. The aim of the workshop was to establish a new research team for the Arctic Centre and a new UArctic Thematic Network in the field of Arctic migration.


The HuSArctic project (Arctic Centre, University of Lapland) calls for papers for an international conference with a focus on the Barents region and its environment, sustainability and development, organized in March 25-28, 2017 in Enontekiö, Finland and Kautokeino, Norway. Deadline for abstracts: July 15, 2016.




Almost twenty organizations from Norway, Russia, Iceland and Greenland are involved into this big-scale project leaded by Nord University. The UArctic Thematic Network on Arctic Extractive Industries will once again organize a PhD course this summer. The course has the theme "Resource development versus other community sustainability options?" and takes place Aug 29 to  Sept 4, 2016 in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada.

The sixth Northern Political Economy Symposium, organized September 8-9, 2016 in Rovaniemi, Finland by the Arctic Centre of the University of Lapland, will discuss everyday life in the Arctic and various tactics of tackling the changes in it. This is the first call for abstracts, with the deadline of May 31, 2016.
