The Marpart conferences are arranged twice a year. The conference was last time arranged in Reykjavik, Iceland in February 2016 and will be arranged in Nuuk, Greenland in 2017. The Marpart conferences focus is cooperation on maritime emergency preparedness in the High North and the management of large scale emergency operations at sea.

The Marpart project includes more than twenty researchers from fourteen universities in ten countries. The main funding comes from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nordland County Administration, the Nord University and the partner institutions.

The Marpart conferences represent a meeting place for discussions between industry, government, preparedness professionals and academia. We emphasize the responsibility of the industries and governments for continuous improvements in preparedness as to safety, security and environmental protection in the High North.

At the conference we highlight the need for measures including competence efforts to respond to composite challenges including search and rescue (SAR), oil spill recovery, firefighting and salvage, as well as actions against terror or other forms of violent action.
