This group visited two Universities of the Arctic Institutions, the Aboriginal Education Department at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay (Ontario) and Education Faculty, Indigenous Projects/Programs at Memorial University in Newfoundland. The program both places where fruitful and pointed out possibilities for further cooperation. Establishing of a thematic network under the University of Arctic was mentioned. Under the meetings participants exchanged pedagogical ideas and experiences and history of colonialism and assimilation policy. In Newfoundland the situation for Inuit , Innu and Mi`kmaq people was focused and in Thunder Bay there were an Ojibwe and Cree focus.
Saami Language and Teacher Training Delegation visited First Nation and Inuit Language and Teacher Training Institutes in Thunder Bay and Newfoundland

The six teacher training institutions in the Norwegian part of
Sampi collaborate in a regional project group to improve teacher
training for Sami areas. The visit to Canada from
October 11-16, 2012
focused on first nations, Inuit and Sami teaching methods, language
education and vitalization of languages spoken of relatively few
peoples. Five of the institutions are members of the University of the
Arctic and the sixth and southernmost, Nord Trøndelag UC is applying for
membership this year.
