The Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines hosts the UArctic Regional Centre Continental Europe via the Institut de recherches arctiques Jean Malaurie (IRAM). It fosters and promotes unique and relevant educational opportunities for Northerners and continental Europeans through collaboration and academic exchange and increases the visibility of Arctic studies and research at European level.
The Regional Centre was established on October 17, 2024 in Reykjavík, Iceland, at the 2024 Arctic Circle Assembly.
As outlined in the Centre's Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), it has six main objectives:
1. Participate in and improve UArctic objectives. This encompasses the following areas:
-Education: Foster an promote unique and relevant educational opportunities for northerners and continental Europeans through collaboration and academic exchange.
-Knowledge: Build, share and apply knowledge through members' contributions and collaborations in research and sciences, including Indigenous and traditional knowledge.
-Members: Participate in UArctic's goal of growth and dynamic membership of higher education institutions and other relevant organizations.
-Resources: Help secure funding and other resources to boost productivity and capacity in the Arctic.
2. Increase the visibility of Arctic studies and research at European level.
3. Forge links with and between Arctic Research Institutes and consortia in Continental Europe and the Arctic.
4. Participate and coordinate, when relevant, efforts to submit proposals for funding under ERASMUS+ and the Horizon programme.
5. Participate in fund-raising campaigns.
6. Provide a forum for debate on the Arctic in Continental Europe.
