The Arctic Six (A6), formerly known as the Arctic Five (A5), is a partnership of six prominent universities: Luleå University of Technology, Nord University, Umeå University, the University of Oulu, the University of Lapland, and UiT The Arctic University of Norway. It operates as a UArctic Regional Centre for the benefit of UArctic members in the Fennoscandinavian Arctic, supporting their participation and engagement in UArctic activities.
The Regional Centre's combined and complementary strengths in education, research and innovation across its members make it a strong knowledge hub, and together their voices are amplified in the global Arctic arena. The Arctic Six stimulates cross-institutional and cross-disciplinary research and education, coordinates and shares its research infrastructure and jointly develops state-of-the-art innovation systems, in order to support responsible development in the Arctic.
A6 came into existence in 2016 under the name the Joint Arctic Agenda, which in 2017 formed the Arctic Five. Nord University joined officially joined in October 2024, leading the Arctic Five to become the Arctic Six.
