On October 17, 2024, during the Arctic Circle Assembly, PhD and master students from Québec and UArctic universities had an opportunity to present their work through lightning talks.
Led by Dr Clara Hoppe from the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI), Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research, new findings published in the journal Nature Communications show Arctic microalgae can build biomass with less light than previously recorded as the minimum for photosynthesis.

Arctic Wool: A Connecting Thread

It all began with a small piece of soft brown wool entangled in the delicate branches of a dwarf birch. I was a new Master's student starting my fieldwork, spending days crouched over the tundra in Nunavik, Northern Québec.
The fourth Frederik Paulsen Arctic Academic Action Award (FP Award) has been awarded to Alexander Tøsdal Tveit, Lisa Y. Stein, and Fang Qian in a ceremony today at the Arctic Circle Assembly in Iceland.
