Ross Virginia of the UArctic Institute for Applied Circumpolar Policy at Dartmouth College is one of the authors of an Op-Ed piece in the New York Times, Hands Across the Melting Ice. The article addresses international relations in the circumpolar region in the context of climate change and increased resource extraction.

The recent issue of the Russian-English language journal 'Arctic Herald' features an article on UArctic by President Lars Kullerud, documenting the progress that the organization has made over its first decade. The article is available online in Issue No.2 of Arctic Herald.

In his opening speech to the International Polar Year Conference in Montreal, John Duncan, Canada's Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, spoke in support of the University of the Arctic as one of the important partners in the country's work in circumpolar cooperation.

For the first time, Nunavut Arctic College is offering a free online university course to residents of the territory.

Several articles have appeared in the Canadian media in reaction to the Canadian government's budget decisions that saw funding for the University of the Arctic drastically cut.

A special Arctic issue of Nature has now been published, featuring articles contributed by past UArctic Board Chair Oran Young, current President Lars Kullerud, and Lawson Brigham of the University of Alaska Fairbanks and the UArctic Institute of Applied Circumpolar Policy. A major foreign policy goal of the Obama administration has been to "reset" U.S.-Russian relations, building ties between the two nations at all levels. Several Russian university presidents on Wednesday said that the closer relationship was helping them build much closer ties to American higher education, with a focus on expanding research collaboration and embracing something close to an American style of technology transfer -- a relatively new development for Russia.
