The 6th University of the Arctic Rectors’ Forum has concluded in Winnipeg Canada, held from Nov 13-15, 2012. This year, the Forum was attended by 37 presidents and rectors of higher education institutions from all eight Arctic countries.  Hosted by University of Manitoba, the theme of the 2012 Rectors’ Forum was "Pan-Arctic Cooperation: Regional Partnerships with Global Impact."

As part of the UArctic Rectors' Forum, 21 students from 15 different UArctic member institution arrived in snowy Winnipeg to participate in the 3rd UArctic Student Forum (November 10-14, 2012).

A University of the Arctic group led by UArctic president Lars Kullerud, currently in Manitoba for the UArctic 2012 Rector’s Forum, on Tue Nov 13 visited the University of Winnipeg. The purpose of the visit was to share information about UArctic with Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, President & Vice-Chancellor (and former member of UArctic's Board of Governors) and members of UW faculty. President Lars Kullerud gave an update on UArctic activities. The people present had an opportunity to share ideas and concerns about UArctic's present and future.

UArctic President, UArctic VP Indigenous, rector Jelena Porsanger of Sámi University College, and staff members of UArctic International Office Pierre-André Forest and Pirkko Pulkkanen (in Manitoba for the UArctic Rectors' Forum), on Tuesday Nov 13 visited the University of Manitoba Extended Education and Aboriginal Focus Programs office.

The draft declaration of the 2012 Rectors' Forum is currently being discussed by UArctic's higher education leadership in their meeting in Manitoba, Canada. The final approved version of the declaration and further news from the Rectors' Forum will be available after the conclusion of the meeting.
