Organization: Administration and Program Offices

In the North, For the North, By the NorthUArctic is a decentralized organization, with offices, programs and other functions hosted at member institutions in the Circumpolar North. The daily operations are entrusted to a light and distributed administration. Many of our programs also have program offices to provide support for program administration.

UArctic President (GRID, Arendal, Norway)
The President serves as the chief executive officer of UArctic, and is responsible for its overall administration and the development and delivery of its programs. The position is appointed by the Board for a three-year (renewable) term and is accountable to the Board for the administration of UArctic. The President participates ex officio in meetings of the Council, the Executive Committee, and the Board, and works closely with these bodies to ensure that programmatic activities are initiated and implemented in a timely manner. UArctic International Secretariat (University of Lapland, Rovaniemi, Finland
)
The International Secretariat has the primary responsibility for coordinating the internal and external information, particularly the production of the monthly UArctic newsletter, Shared Voices, and maintaining the website and news services. The Secretariat provides support for UArctic’s Council, Board of Governors, management, and the Director of UArctic. The International Secretariat is located at the University of Lapland in Rovaniemi, Finland. Outi Snellman serves as Vice-President Administration and head of the International Secretariat.

Vice-President Indigenous (Kautokeino, Norway)
Vice-President Indigenous, Jan Heny Keskitalo, serves an important role for UArctic, ensuring that respect for and inclusion of indigenous perspectives, traditions, and systems of knowledge are included in all aspects of the University of the Arctic's activities.

UArctic Finance Office (University of Alaska Fairbanks, Fairbanks, USA)
Supports financial reporting of UArctic activities and strategic financial planning by UArctic's Administration and Board of Governors. Pat Pitney serves as Vice-President Finance and head of the Finance Office.

UArctic Research Office (Northern (Arctic) Federal University, Arkhangelsk, Russia)
The UArctic Research Office in Arkhangelsk helps coordinate and promote scientific research across the membership of the network, as well as engaging in strategic partnerships with regional science organizations such as IASC, IASSA, and the working groups of the Arctic Council.

UArctic Thematic Networks Office (Thule Institute at the University of Oulu, Oulu, Finland)
The Thematic Networks Coordination Office was established to act as the central organizing body of the thematic network program. The Office is in charge of coordination of developing and promoting networks.

Graduate Studies Office (University of Alaska Fairbanks, Fairbanks, USA)
Coordinates the three program areas of the Graduate strategic area, including Masters Programs, Graduate Networks, and the UArctic Field School (UNIS office).

UArctic Office of Undergraduate Studies (North-Eastern Federal University, Yakutsk, Russia)
The Circumpolar Studies undergraduate program is administered by the Office of Undergraduate Studies. The Office supports both the development, review, and quality assurance of the undergraduate programs. The Office of Undergraduate Studies is assisted by Regional Offices.

north2north International Coordination Office (Finnmark University College, Alta, Norway)
The north2north International Coordination Office is the centre of management for the north2north Student Mobility Program. The office administers the program, and assists the Program Team in development, review and quality assurance of the north2north program.

International Academic Office (Northlands College, La Ronge, Canada)
Tracks course and credit completion for students in UArctic programs, particularly for Circumpolar Studies completion and recognition.

UArctic Russian Information Centre (North-Eastern Federal University, Yakutsk, Russia)
The Russian Information Centre is responsible for Russian translation of UArctic documents and website information. The team, composed of students and staff from the Sakha University, are integral to breaking the language barrier between UArctic member institutions as well as UArctic students.
