Circumpolar Studies Registrations CLOSED for Winter/Spring 2013.
The Office of Undergraduate Studies for the University of the Arctic invites students from all UArctic member institutions, and those who are not a member and would like to study as an Open Learner, to study northern topics in online global classrooms with students from Canada, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden and the United States.
Courses are delivered online and are worth 6 ECTS, or 3 credit units at most North American institutions. The language of instruction is English. Where applicable, tuition and other fees are charged only by a student’s home institution. Credit will be recorded at the offering institution and may be transferred to a student’s home institution after successful completion of the course. Students must contact their
BCS Site Coordinator for official approval and for information on prerequisites and credit transfer before registering.

About the Circumpolar Studies Program
The Circumpolar Studies program is an exciting way for students attending University of the Arctic member institutions to learn about the North, with courses held in the classroom, online, outdoors, and around the world.
The Circumpolar Studies program gives you the opportunity to learn about the lands, peoples, and issues of the Circumpolar North and prepares you for advanced study or professional employment in fields as diverse as sustainable resource management, self-government, Arctic engineering, and northern tourism. Special emphasis is given to matters concerning Indigenous people of the Circumpolar North. The Circumpolar Studies program consists of two required components: The BCS Core and an Advanced Emphasis.
The BCS Core Courses consists of a single lower-level introductory course and six upper-level advanced courses in three interdisciplinary fields of study. Together, the core enables students to gain a broad knowledge and understanding of the lands, peoples, and critical issues of the Circumpolar North.
Advanced Emphases are programs of study, roughly equivalent to a semester of schooling, that focus on the advanced research of an area, issue, or problem of particular relevance to the North and for its people.
Every Fall and Winter the BCS Core courses and Advanced Emphases are offered online and on-site among UArctic Member Institutions.
